Sex Addicts Anonymous (SAA) describes an addiction this way: “The essence of all addiction is the addicts' experience of powerlessness over a compulsive behavior, resulting in their lives becoming unmanageable.”

  1. Do you turn to pornography to escape from stress or problems?

  2. Do you use pornography as a reward for accomplishing certain tasks during the day?

  3. Do you worry that your watching porn is getting out of control?

  4. Do you view pornography even at the risk of legal problems?

  5. Does viewing porn interfere with priorities at home, work or social life?

  6. Is your job at risk because you look at porn?

  7. Is pornography interfering with your spiritual life?

  8. Do you feel shame, guilt, depression, or hopelessness after watching porn?

  9. Is sex a dominate thought in your daily activities?

  10. Do you make promises to yourself that you'll quit viewing porn but always break them?

  1. Do you view pornography on a regular basis?

  2. Do you engage in anonymous sex (prostitution, escorts, etc.)?

  3. Do you regularly view child or teen pornography?

  4. Do you think about porn while having sex with your spouse?

  5. Do you think about how to seduce a child or teen?

  6. Do you masturbate regularly while viewing porn?

  7. Have you spent money on pornography?

  8. Do you spend a lot of time viewing pornography online?

  9. Do you seek sexually stimulating material while watching TV?

  10. Do you often dwell on thoughts of sexual body parts or activities?

  11. Have you engaged in phone or cyber sex?

  12. Do you frequent sexual venues (clubs, bookstores, shows, etc.)?

  13. Do you think about sex when you see underwear advertisements?

  14. Do you have sexual fantasies involving children or teenagers?

  15. Do you have a collection of pornography (printed or electronic)?


Porn Addiction Test - Assessing Relationships

  1. Do you prefer porn and masturbation over sex with your spouse?

  2. Do you pressure your spouse to engage in uncomfortable sexual practices?

  3. Is viewing pornography causing stress in your relationship?

  4. Have you lost a job or important relationship because of your pornography habits?

  5. Is porn or other sexual habits preventing you from having a normal relationship?



Evaluation

If you answer yes to several of these questions, you probably have a pornography addiction. The more yes answers, the greater likelihood.

If the results of this porn addiction test shows several yes answers, you need to get help. If there are yes answers to questions involving children, harm, or risky or illegal activities, you need to get help immediately.

The good news is that you can recover from porn addiction with the right help and program. It will take work, but the effort is rewarding. The shame, self-loathing, and exhaustion can be replaced with peace and self-respect.
