Sex Addiction Test

The following sex addiction test will help you or a loved one determine the likelihood of sexual addiction. This test evaluates attitudes, behaviors and relationships.

Sex Addicts Anonymous (SAA) describes an addiction this way: “The essence of all addiction is the addicts' experience of powerlessness over a compulsive behavior, resulting in their lives becoming unmanageable.”

Taking this sex addiction test and evaluating your answers can be the first step in overcoming sexual addiction.

Record the number of yes answers.


Sex Addiction Test - Assessing Attitudes

  1. Do you feel you have a sexual problem or that your sexual behavior is out of control?

  2. Have you made promises to change your behavior but end up breaking them?

  3. Is your sexual behavior unrewarding?

  4. Do you turn to sex or fantasies to escape from your problems?

  5. Have you ever sought help for your behavior?

  6. Has your behavior often left you feeling depressed or hopeless?

  7. Do your sexual habits and behaviors interfere with priorities at home, work or social life?

  8. Are you constantly preoccupied or distracted with sexual thoughts or fantasies?

  9. Are you spending excessive time and energy thinking about and engaging in sex?

  10. Have others commented about your seeming preoccupation with sex?

  11. Do you try to hide your sexual habits from your spouse, family or employer?

  12. Do you feel shame or guilt about your sexual activities?

  13. Are your sexual behaviors in conflict with your values or religious beliefs?

  14. Does it feel almost impossible to pull away from certain behaviors, like watching porn?

  15. Does it take increasingly more energy or activity to achieve sexual pleasure or relief?

  16. Have you tried to stop your habits but have been unable to?

Sex Addiction Test - Assessing Behaviors

  1. Do you engage in anonymous sex (prostitutes, escorts, etc.)?

  2. Do you engage in exhibitionism (expose yourself)?

  3. Have you hurt anyone as a result of sexual behavior (physically or emotionally)?

  4. Are any of your sexual behaviors against the law?

  5. Do you involve children or youth in your sexual thoughts or activities?

  6. Do you continue to masturbate after marriage?

  7. Do you engage in compulsive masturbation (multiple times per day)?

  8. Do you pay for sexual paraphernalia or services (porn, prostitution, shows, etc.)?

  9. Do you spend a lot of time online viewing porn or in sexual chat rooms?

  10. Do you spend time grooming others for sexual activities?

  11. Is sexually explicit material needed to arouse you?

  12. Do you engage in sexual activities even at the risk of being caught?

  13. Do you engage in risky behaviors when you understand the risks (illegal, threat of disease or harm, etc.)?

  14. Do you regularly seek anonymous sexual opportunities (public places, red-light districts, etc.)?

  15. Do you frequent sexual venues (clubs, bookstores, shows, etc.)?

  16. Do you frequently engage in sadomasochistic activities?

Sex Addiction Test - Assessing Relationships

  1. Are you involved in a relationship just for sex?

  2. Are you more interested in sexual activities outside of the relationship than with your partner?

  3. Are you often in bad relationships?

  4. Have you lost a job or important relationship because of your sexual habits?

  5. Is porn or other sexual habits preventing you from having a normal relationship?

  6. Is the value of your relationship primarily determined by sexual activities?


Evaluation

If you answer yes to several of these questions, you probably have a sexual addiction. The more yes answers, the greater likelihood.

If the results of this sex addiction test shows several yes answers, you need to get help. If there are yes answers to questions involving children, harm, or risky or illegal activities, you need to get help immediately.

The good news is that you can recover from sexual addiction with the right help and program. It will take work, but the effort is rewarding. The shame, self-loathing, and exhaustion can be replaced with peace and self-respect.
